This post might lead you into temptation of buying a new Chromebook even if you already have one (or more). If you are in the market to buy a new one, this could easily be one of the top choices. So read carefully.

Acer has announced a new Chromebook, CB3-431-C5XK with impressive specs and an affordable price. The first thing you will notice is the full metal body.

The CB3-431-C5XK  has a sleek aluminum body, a first for Acer. I will not blame you if this reminds you of a famous Cupertino company’s laptops (or if the Google search using image shows incorrect results!).

The screen is 14″ Full HD IPS with 1920 x 1080 resolution supported by Intel HD Graphics. That is another selling point for this Chromebook. You do not see good displays Chromebooks; especially in the $299.99 bracket. The quality of the display of course cannot be determined only by reading the numbers on the paper, but it looks promising so far.

Processing is handled by Intel Celeron N3060 Dual-Core Processor 1.6GHz (Up to 2.48GHz). The storage is 32GB SSD (as opposed to the usual 16GB that you often see on base models). This is also the first Acer Chromebook with two first-generation USB 3.1 ports.

This attractive package is priced at $299.99, which if you ask me, is another reason to consider this Chromebook.  The last time we saw a full metal body Chromebook was in the Asus Flip. This time however we have bigger screen, better processor, more RAM and storage on the base model and an HD screen (but non-touch, which is ok if you ask me).

Complete Specs

  • Intel Celeron N3060 Dual-Core Processor 1.6GHz with Intel Burst Technology up to 2.48GHz,
  • Google Chrome Operating System, 14″ Full HD ComfyViewTM Widescreen IPS LED-backlit Display
  • Intel HD Graphics
  • 4GB LPDDR3 SDRAM Memory
  • 32GB Internal Storage
  • 802.11ac WiFi featuring MIMO technology (Dual-Band 2.4GHz and 5GHz)
  • Bluetooth 4.2
  • HD Webcam (1280 x 720) with 88 degree wide angle lens supporting High Dynamic Range (HDR),
  • 2 – USB 3.0 Ports
  • 1 – HDMI Port
  • 3-Cell Li-Polymer Battery (3950 mAh)
  • Up to 12-hours Battery Life
  • 3.42 lbs. | 1.55 kg (system unit only)

Overall, as I said, this is an attractive package. Reviews are yet to come in, however I am confident that Acer won’t disappoint because I can see some serious effort in putting something like this together.

The Chromebook is currently available for pre-order on Amazon. You can review the specs or order one right from here (affiliate link)
